Pergola Balcony Ideas

Pergola Balcony Ideas – It’s hard to believe, but July will get a small bungalow in two years. Remember, you’re not staying, but the owner is – we moved in last September.

July is coming to an end, what with the above events and the arrival of our baby…

We were so busy living indoors that the exterior fell by the wayside. But we are making progress! We are currently in the midst of two projects: a small front door porch and a not-so-small deck.

How To Elevate Your Outdoor Living With Pergola Design For Terrace

If you’ve been following my Insta Stories, you know how excited I get at the prospect of alfresco dining.

By replacing the small window in the existing dining room with French doors, I dreamed of expanding the dining room with a pergola, seating area, grill area, dining area and even an outdoor living area complete with fireplace. Basically the pit is the whole shebang.

Now, those plans are finally coming to fruition one small step at a time. Luckily, we hired these projects—I can’t imagine trying to DIY a deck, pergola, and front porch all at once with a nursery and a seven-month-old pregnant. As the third trimester rolls around, writing these drafts puts me to sleep late.

11 Best Pergola Roof Ideas

Speaking of pregnancy, I’m crossing my fingers that both projects are finished in time for my baby shower in early June.

With any big project we’re working on, I think it’s important to make some initial sketches – either in a computer program or on plain paper. Plans inevitably change – and that’s perfectly fine. But for most of us, narrowing down our wants and needs helps us jump into mixed plans before we jump in because it gives everyone a clear direction. For projects like this I mostly use floorplanner.com or mess around in Photoshop.

Stay tuned for photos of the finished, decorated deck in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’ll share the process behind the scenes. I hope you’ll answer some important questions – like what color to paint your pergola and what stain to choose for your deck.

14 Spectacular Pergola Designs For Your Terrace

If you’re not familiar, a pergola is an outdoor architectural feature used to define an outdoor space. It can be attached to a house or freehold and consists of supporting posts and criss-crosses that form an open roof.

I remember the pergolas; They have a “Mediterranean villa” feel about them – and you know how I feel about the Mediterranean… but an evening at an Italian restaurant called Tony’s Pasta Shop and Trattoria (highly recommended Chattanooga area if you’re here!) I could easily tie up on our deck. I understood the possibility of this.

To add to my excitement, we recently discovered a huge rose bush on our property (it’s huge!). I plan to move some of it around the pergola posts and see if it takes over the entire pergola. If any of you have any tips on how to reintroduce roses, I’m all ears!

27 Lovely Pergola Ideas From Our Design Team

Of course, not every pergola can offer a spectacular view of the harbor. But here are my favorite features that are simple. Curtains add a dose of privacy, while exposed brick creates a sense of space. Both elements can easily be reproduced in any setting.

A little more on the modern side, this pergola has a beautiful privacy screen for an intimate setting. But what I like the most is how the square is structured. Creating a great space for outdoor seating, planters of varying heights add visual interest to the space.

I love the simple, clean lines of this pergola; Like the previous example, this shows that you don’t need a lot of trinkets to make a place look stylish. Statement chairs and greenery are enough to make the space feel intimate and luxurious.

The Best 4 Balcony Shade Ideas

Another great example of simplicity done right. String lights paired with plants are needed to elevate this space to a dreamy level. Can’t you imagine a romantic meal at this square?

A little more modern than what we’re going for, this pergola is a mix of wood and steel elements. My favorite feature is the swing – a great piece that adds a lot of personality (not to mention fun!) to any pergola style.

This example of a pergola has a Mediterranean appeal; Figures because this particular house is in Spain. A borrowing feature here is climbing flowers; I want to make sure that everything we plant is designated for our specific planting area.

19 Pergola Ideas To Enhance Your Backyard

Another perfect example of how a few carefully considered details can elevate an outdoor space. All you need are lights (preferably solar!), a simple outdoor dining table, and pergola pole climbing greens and lights.

Another modern example of a pergola, but it is a little difficult to understand from a photo that this open space has many functional areas. I also love that it’s white – perfect for keeping the summer heat at bay.

A privacy screen is a great idea, but apart from that, this outdoor space has a lot of personality – with the swing, the hanging plant, the built-in seating, and those chandeliers!

How Adding A Pergola Will Change Your Outdoor Living Space

Oh la la, evening shot! This picture perfectly describes how I use our pergola: alfresco dinners! Integrated floor lighting is a bit of a luxury, which we won’t part with, but the same dreamy look can be achieved with multiple spotlights.

Pergola Balcony Ideas

I love this example of how a pergola is integrated with other outdoor elements. From the border plants to the facade of the house, every detail is considered, always what a great design should be.

I couldn’t fit this fancy pergola; It’s been on my Pinterest deck’s inspiration board for years! Once again, I love how each element plays with the next. Although the 1930s bungalow cost more than we could afford, the lesson here is attention to detail. They make or break the overall look.

Top 8 Unique Ways To Shade Your Balcony

I love all things Sarah Sherman Samuel, including her garden pergola. In this example, the pergola is separate from the house and large enough to accommodate a dining table – proving that you don’t have to be elaborate to be beautiful. And can we talk about those beautiful flowers?! We want California weather to be beautiful year-round.

Here is another great example of the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Ideas to borrow include simple globe lighting, lots of plants to add interest to the space, and of course, a nice, long dining table to accommodate our friends.

Here we have a great example of using a pergola that I plan to do for an upcoming baby shower. Again, flowers and hanging tea lights add a lot of romance to the space, taking a simple dinner to a whole new level.

It may not be the most practical white option, but it’s pretty cool to look at! Also, it gets a bit cooler during summer days. I especially like the symmetry of this example, which allows the styling to be kept to a minimum.

While we don’t plan to add a privacy screen to the pergola, this example shows how it can make the deck more intimate. A great, inexpensive option is to hang heavy curtains (to keep them from flapping in the wind) that you can easily open and close to suit your mood.

Although more of a patio than a pergola, you can imagine this space with a roof. Curtains add plenty of texture and, once again, offer the flexibility of closing off the space for intimate gatherings.

Diy Balcony Makeover

I love that this example is so simple yet beautiful. As the wood is not finished, the deck itself is a simple floating option (like yours). Although the trees near the posts haven’t started growing yet, you can see the incredible potential here.

Another traditional option, this pergola proves once again that you don’t need much to create a beautiful outdoor living space with a few delicate hanging plants.
