When we receive any pergola order, we will provide you with a detailed set of drawings based on the options and sizes selected. The drawings will clearly show all the details and dimensions from 3 different angles, they are a great tool for you to double check that it is what you want before we start building. Drawings will be emailed within 5 business days and we will review your drawings as necessary to ensure all information and dimensional issues are correct before construction begins.

The corner posts are 5 1/2″ by 5 1/2″ (size 6x6s) and set back 12″ from the roof size (this can be adjusted to meet your needs just let us know).

Upper support beams (lintels) and rafters are 1 7/8″ x 5 3/4″. If you prefer a different size or design, write what you want in the comment section or contact us.

Regular posts hold a 9′ long board. 9 posts set the top of the roof 9′ and give you 8′ 4″ clearance under the rafters (“ceiling height”). About 90% of our pergola customers go with the default 9′ post height. Your pergola can be taller or shorter if you want. , choose a different height and write what you want in the comment section.

Maximum height is 20′ for both sides with a 4 pole system. Maximum width on center between posts (including column sizes listed above) is 18′ 2 1/2′. Lanes over 20′ in any direction are constructed with additional posts to support 20 to 40 feet in height. For example, a 30′ x 20′ freestanding social pergola has 6 posts.

Redwood Pergola kits are always fully assembled in the shop before shipping to ensure everything fits perfectly. All trees are glued together to increase structural strength, and all pergolas are locked to prevent trees from sagging, tipping or moving. Large pergolas have hundreds of posts. Full attention is rarely used because it is labor intensive, but it is one of the secrets to a long and beautiful pergola.
